BB TV: Frans Keurentjes

'Adjusting with phosphate rights will be difficult'

18 October 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 14 comments

"If farmers want to milk more in 2018, they must also have phosphate rights for this. That is not as easy as the dairy farmers think," says Frans Keurentjes, chairman of the dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina (RFC).

The largest dairy in the Netherlands sent a letter to member dairy farmers on Monday 16 October. The aim of the letter is to raise awareness of the impact of the phosphate rights system from 1 January 2018.

A survey among member dairy farmers shows that the ambitions in 2018 are very high. They would intend a lot more milk to produce. RFC foresees a peak in milk supply in the first half of 2018.

Keurentjes also discusses the system of the guaranteed price and the measures that RFC is considering in 2018 if a production peak does occur in the first half of 2018.

Are those dairy farmers really so stupid that they first start milking in full at the beginning of 2018, and only then buy rights?
Oh no??

Of course we first have to milk in full, otherwise there is still no money to pay the phosphate rights.

members' meetings that started on October 16 and then send a letter at the end of the afternoon, craziness at its best

4% discount for land-bound and the boerenbusinessgirl doesn't blink with her eyes????
tinus 18 October 2017
the real reason is of course that they cannot pay the guaranteed price, they suffer a loss at this guaranteed price, the correction has been upwards for months, another month of delay

keurentjes is wrong with his 4% or he knows more than we do and the bb girl knows nothing so can not ask.

4% discount for land-based ? Afterwards still sewn by rfc

in intensive farming, only at the end do they look at how many animals they have had and then buy, lease or lease their rights.
Troy 19 October 2017
@ae

And if buying additional or leasing is too expensive for their liking, they gamble that they will not get control. Has been going well with some farmers for many years.

But with the dairy farmers it will turn out that the dairies will check whether you have sufficient rights. Just imagine that RFC simply stops collecting the milk from a farmer with a lot of rights shortage. Wouldn't surprise me at all...

The 4% discount for land-based was a misconception. This has since been removed from the video. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Dear Troy, wait would you expect from RFC?
That they are going to cheat? It really isn't possible, such an organization must maintain integrity. I expect RFC to accurately follow imposed legislation.
Incidentally, it seems to me that the phosphate legislation can simply be checked administratively by the government. And I expect the same from the government. Cheating/gambling really won't work.
Harold 20 October 2017
Phosphate rights are government legislation for dairy farmers. The dairy has nothing to do with that at all. It's completely out there. So what do you mean by "cheating" and "remaining with integrity" Dirk?
john 20 October 2017
in intensive livestock farming, we look at the agricultural census in September and use this to estimate the availability of rights. If this is favourable, we put another round of fattening pigs on and otherwise we leave the pen empty.. (piglets that no longer fit cross the border) With the dairy cows, the choice is quickly made to keep a larger one or to continue milking for a longer period of time. ... while extra pigs are not coming very soon.

RFC has now "corrected" the message, but where is it Boerenbusiness with its 1/correction, 2/excuse, 3/ statement, because a well-paid journalist who does not immediately recognize such a statement, what does this mean for the quality and credibility of this medium?
