BBTV: Bart Bremmer

'Precision farming turns your business upside down'

6 December 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 3 comments

As an innovation sociologist, Bart Bremmer looks at the agricultural sector from a distance. One of the major changes he sees is that of precision farming. Its integration is stalling. How do you change that?

Bremmer sees business operations as a big puzzle. If you add precision agriculture to that, it has consequences for the entire puzzle. Entrepreneurs must anticipate this. On this subject he wrote the blog 'The slow spread of precision farming'.

Count your blessings. It's a big thing when precision farming turns the farmer's thinking upside down through better observation, data collection, analysis and subsequent research.
That hassle with task cards and follow-up steps (ICT-controlled machines) is really not a necessity to thoroughly improve business operations.

Thorough, indeed; The use of precision techniques mainly relates to the soil.
Let us (including WUR!!) delve into this for a better understanding of properties and processes in order to better appreciate/develop the effects of our own actions.

For most this remains a far from your bed show
Must be an advantage, you have to earn it back

Just think of dairy farmers who are awake at night because of the milking robot

To a certain extent you have to try to go along
A milking robot really does have added value
I myself have rtk gps on tractor and spray and plow, I really see the point in this
But not all that place-specific hassle on a plot
This costs a lot of time and money and yields too little
GPS applications give rest time and job satisfaction, including the milking robot
Everything else can be stolen from me
