'Slurry belongs on and not in the ground'

June 20, 2018 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 1 reaction

The Association for the Conservation of Farmers & the Environment (VBBM) has been fighting for above-ground manure application for 28 years, provided that the manure meets a number of strict conditions. In order to preserve the 'deflection plate', VBBM submitted a manifesto to the Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) committee.

VBBM chairman Erik Valk explains in the studio why the ideas of the association are more current than ever. After the manifesto, MPs Tjeerd de Groot (D66) and Frank Futselaar (SP) submitted a motion to Minister Carola Schouten. However, she announced that she would deny the motion.

slurry? why slurry? mature manure is needed. For too long livestock farming has continued with slurry systems, while solid manure is useful and desirable, even for payment by the recipient. What matured farmyard manure is, unlike slurry, good for soil (life) and crops.
Why is this club still holding onto slurry?
