Drought from record year 1976 comes into view

June 22, 2018 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 25 comments

A new high-pressure area ensures stable and dry weather. The precipitation deficit is therefore close to the record year 1976. Not only in our country, but also in many other European countries it is very dry.

The weather has always been variable, even at short distances. Certain places in NL. the crops even had to be transplanted or sown this spring. best damage post. And now drought!!

in 1976 there was almost nothing in a pool.
that goes for potatoes and onions.
now we've given everything away. even if it gets very dry, that price will never come again.

Growers are making the big mistake of ruining the market themselves! Conclude contracts for prices that do not cover costs and then also with the obligation that the excess kilos are GIVEN! It must be immediately large and a lot with a lot of financing, so much so that one cannot bear any market risk! Literally SLAVE and total dependence on own megalomania!
Growing freely with hedging on the futures market at the right moments resulted in much higher yields. Those who signed last season at 17 (term has been at 20!) are laughing their asses off! Then why draw such a CERTAIN LOSS scrap? Even now it is possible to hedge on considerably more money than contract prices via the futures market!!!
Peter34 June 23, 2018
If the weather forecaster/BB has an interest in a higher futures market, it is served by mentioning 1976 in passing.
But every year is different and the market situation, with a much larger growing area on the one hand and a much larger processing industry on the other, is so much different now than it was then.

@Petatje 'Even now it is possible to hedge via the futures market on considerably more money than contract prices!!!' .... that is already the first blow for the receiving contracting party.
peta June 23, 2018
Dear Peter 34, I'm not talking about click contracts, and it doesn't matter who the buyer is in the market. If the processors are going to make money here, it's because the market gets even higher. And no hassle with giving over barrels for the wish listing of the pact!

Hope it doesn't rain before September
That is the best for all arable farmers in the short and long term

In addition, 80% of the potatoes were bintjes and rain reels were an attraction.

Say petateke 17 is the contract price, that is far too little you think I would just wait until it is above 25 the tm otherwise you are much too low

There are no contacts for April 17
Harry June 23, 2018
Will be below the 2 driest years for the next 5 weeks. Just look at the knmi, 1976 is still a long way off.
Einstein June 23, 2018
Who is talking about April piet and by the way the TM is net sales at 15 and a bit on April and net you do not come on June either and on contract in June.
pete s June 24, 2018
Great isn't it
You are happy with your contract and I am happy that I always have everything free
It's just a shame that the market is broken because of the contracts / pools and potatoes supplied

Net sales term now at 15? How much costs do you think you will pay? Most April contracts vary depending on the variety/customer between 12,50 and 15.-. But you as a super loyal contract grower will get 17 of course..

Piet S is simply right; market forces are broken
Einstein June 24, 2018
Am I writing on April 17 Vicky? Reading is hard
Einstein June 24, 2018
And free cultivation is a free choice, which is important that you have to keep up with the times.
peta June 24, 2018
How do you keep up with the times? I don't have to blindly follow other growers if there is nothing extra to earn there?
Furthermore, dear Einstein, part of entrepreneurship is that you delve into the various marketing options. I can highly recommend a futures market course.
old farmer June 24, 2018
If the farmers can't contain themselves with growing too much, it will be nothing for both the free and contract growers. In this way, the industry retains control. Seed potatoes follow the same path. The farmers are left empty-handed, worn out machines and poor soil, while the market is growing.
Einstein June 24, 2018
Dear fries, I assume you have followed that course, so tell me what I will have left over if I sell now on April 2019 for the current price of 17,10
Einstein June 24, 2018
For the rest I completely agree with old farmer we grow too many beepers, and I would like to grow everything freely, but with the current oversupply, contract is the way to survive in my opinion.
pete s June 24, 2018
Is something in it
This is because the complete harvest is given away prematurely
I grow for the supermarket and grow early, I no longer have any beepers in mid-August
Last year an average of 8000 per ha
Einstein June 24, 2018
Growing for the supermarket and freeing everything that is new to me, those supermarkets want to record everything, don't I or am I wrong?
pete s June 24, 2018
Purchase agreements have been made
But you don't have to believe me
Dombo June 24, 2018
Well then you don't do your name justice if you don't understand that
Einstein June 24, 2018
There is a ? Behind so it's a dumb question.
