'Directing the transition in livestock farming'

18 September 2018 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 5 comments

What drives Marcel Roordink, the director of ABZ Diervoeding? In conversation with presenter Femke Wolthuis, he looks back and ahead on his career. In this way he wants to steer the transition in Dutch livestock farming and he would rather be 'the best' than 'the biggest'.

A very informative interview.

1 The most important decisions are prepared at the kitchen table
2 The feed supplier is a main influencer
3 The feed industry has capable CEOs, who we desperately need now.
4 Welcome to 10/10 in Wageningen colleague Roordink! see www.circularfarming.nl

"Keep food production in your own hands for the London Paris Berlin triangle"
?????
That would certainly be desirable!
But to hear that from such a very capable CEO (Wim Kan would say), who studied at Dronten, Wageningen and for all Nijenrode,
who knows better than anyone that the Dutch livestock, in particular, is fed by its customers with wheat and soy from the US and Z . America,
then his contribution to the agricultural transition is already clear.
Money rules, and we put everything together to increase our turnover.

Politicians set up agriculture to produce feed and food at regional food auctions.
This is a very understandable goal in view of the many health problems in America with the consumption of food, which have been sprayed with Round Up during the production of the crops.
I'm afraid if this comes with a price tag for increasing the raw materials, the processors will do everything they can to stop this.

The toxicity of Roundup is only a fraction of the alternatives commonly used in the EU. If Roundup ready were introduced here, the reduction of chemical active substances in agriculture would immediately have achieved the target set for 2035.

Maybe Glyphosate isn't so bad.
However, Roundup is available in many compositions, multiple compositions of different active substances in addition to glyphosate. Since the predicate "The toxicity of Roundup is only a fraction of the alternatives that are common in the EU", it is therefore never possible.
In addition, the Roundup ready crops are GMO, DNA structures altered with human hands. The impact of this on people and nature, now and in the future, is always uncertain.

The target for 2035, well, I know of more targets that were never achieved or will be achieved. This is just a field trial, paid for by agriculture. The real objective of the Nl, or W Europe, as well as its agriculture, will remain under the table for a while.
