"How is this possible?" Quite simply, contrary to what EUphiles in politics and media claim (hope?) British farmers expect secession to work out well for them.
Otherwise they would have stepped out in advance, because it is not a question for them that the separation will come left or right.

A lot of land in England is owned by the nobility, they don't sell anyway, so there is little trade.

@Geert. That's right, they also like it... and that's why they pull the right strings.
The media/EUrophiles credit the British as a bunch of idiots as if they were looking in the mirror.
