Dutch Crop tour Week 16

Sowing onions in Kimswerd, with pre-raining

15 April 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Most of the plots that participate in the Onion Crop Tour have now been sown. Due to the drought, the growers have lost a lot of time this year on preparations. Many growers have irrigated or worked the field more often to make the soil as fine as possible. This also applies to the plot in Kimswerd, Friesland.

Before sowing on the plot in Kimswerd, the loam soil was dug. Fertilizer was also spread for growth development of the seed onions and the plot was irrigated. The grower expected that the 10 mm sprinkling would make the soil finer and easier to sow. With his Accord seeder, the grower makes a bed with 5 rows of seed onions on it.
