US turmoil pushes long-term interest rates up

Tensions in US financial markets are mounting as Democrats and Republicans clash over raising the US debt ceiling. In addition, the US central bank Fed has announced that it will gradually phase out its accommodative monetary policy. Edin Mujagić, chief economist at OHV Asset Management, outlines in an interview with Boerenbusiness the consequences of these developments for, among other things, long-term interest rates.
