BBTV Jaap Haanstra

'I no longer dare to say wheat prices'

18 November 2021 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 4 comments

In 2014, Jaap Haanstra, then foreman of LTO Akkerbouw, made the statement that wheat would yield €300 per ton within five years. It took seven years before he was proved right. In the Boerenbusiness In the studio he looks back on his statement, but he also looks ahead. Is €300 the new normal?

Haanstra was often reminded of his statement, he says. The main argument is still solid: "A worldwide population growth of 80 million people requires a record harvest year on year. This is not always achieved." According to the arable farmer, wheat has still not lost any of its pivotal role in the cropping plan.

Making statements about the price evolution of grains today is not easy.
That we might be at 2 within 400 years is just as possible as 250.
- Our N euro is still very little.
- Agricultural inflation is howling like the north wind.
- Fertilizing becomes a crime
-we are going to war, who is against whom, and why and where

just watched the video now...
commodities worldwide, the hard and the soft evolve in large cycles of 45 years. read this right, 45! in between are 5 smaller ones.
at the beginning of 2020 we were at the BOTTOM of that 45-year cycle.
the very big boys know this very well.
to each one to act upon it now.
we have been through 3 years of globalization with all deflationary forces. this is over, amen and out, over and out.

Jaap is really knowledgeable and has thoroughly immersed himself in the matter. We like to take the 2 years that it has become a bit later.

If it can finally go to €300 so smoothly, I think the road to €400 might be even easier than back down to €200
