Dairy farmer's choice: highly productive or extensive

8 July 2024 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 2 comments

A decline in dairy farming in our country seems inevitable, but at the same time the increase in scale will also continue, expects Alfons Beldman researcher at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). According to Beldman, those who stay will have to make choices between intensification, extensification or, for example, regenerative agriculture. We spoke to Beldman about this following a recent publication about this subject.

What is not entirely correct for Mr Beldman is the standard for N sensitivity for Dutch nature reserves. The KDWs were scientifically determined by Van Dobben in 2008.? You can bet that he made a sharp move then. Subsequently, WUR and Bobbink from Radboud University subsequently reduced the KDW for sensitive habitats by 50%, or made it more strict, based on Expert Opinion, i.e. no factual data but parroting from like-minded people. My credo is and remains: scientists can also manipulate the truth and a lie remains a lie!
