Although both the US central bank Fed and the European Central Bank (ECB) have both lowered interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point this month, the differences between the United States and the eurozone are greater than ever. Edin Mujagić, economist and manager of investment fund Hoofbosch, explains to presenter Eric de Lijster the causes of the divergence in economic and financial developments.
The course of long-term interest rates is also striking. For Dutch entrepreneurs in the agri- and food business, this is currently one of the few bright spots, Mujagić indicates. His economic expectations for 2025, the idiosyncratic course of inflation, the upcoming presidency of Donald Trump and the bizarre aftermath of the Fed interest rate decision are also discussed.
