Supply and demand in the onion market are not entirely balanced. While a few weeks ago, growers were steadfast and sorters had to scramble to get their hands on onions, the tables have now turned. It's mainly the smaller lots (with or without a story) that are driving the mood. Growers with nice, large onions in storage aren't getting nervous. Normally, there are always a few opportunities for such onions in the second half of the season.
