The mood in the onion market is shifting slightly. Buyers are generally interested, but quickly find them too expensive. Prices for a standard batch of onions, not too large, are around €14 to €16. Growers, especially at this stage of the season, are reluctant to lower prices further, as some buyers would like to see. These prices are around the cost price, according to several growers. The fact that there is a constant demand for onions is boosting growers' confidence, notes Jurphaas Lugtenburg, market specialist at DCA Market Intelligence.
